Gracen loves to bake muffins, build anything with tools in our garage, and play with trucks.   He also likes to take walks with us and our dog Lilly down to the "Pooh Stick Bridge" across the river a quarter mile from our house.  We literally play “pooh sticks,” from Winnie the Pooh, where Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit and Roo "race" sticks floating under a bridge. We watch carefully to see whose stick floats out from under the bridge first.  Then Gracen takes all the rocks he has collected along the way and throws each one into the river, listening for their distinct “kerrrplops.”

Watching Gracen with his friends and seeing his ability to empathize is a joy. After a play date with his friend Rowen, Gracen said he wanted to write a sad note to Rowan because “…he got knocked down by the tire swing and all.”  “Oh” we said, “You want him to feel better.” Gracen delightedly replied, “Yeah!”

Gracen’s friendships suggest he will make a fabulous older brother.  When we recently asked Gracen what he might teach his younger sister or brother, he said, “I want to teach her to chew. You place a piece of food in your mouth, bite it with your teeth (he went into great detail)...and I want to teach him to jump.”
